Our child-custody practice
Our firm has a very successful child-custody
practice. We advise clients carefully from a standpoint of a child's interests. For us,
it's not necessarily about determining which parent is unfit, but which parent can better
address the child's needs while allowing the other to continue a relationship with the
child after divorce wherever possible.
Settlement vs. Trial
While our firm engages in divorce litigation
when necessary, approximately 80-90% of all divorce cases settle without a trial. The real
issue is the cost and trauma to get there. While trials are occasionally necessary, they
represent a very costly failure of the legal system. We believe that a constructive and
civil approach to divorce best serves clients and their families.
Maintenance and Child
Support
Illinois child support law incorporates a formula which makes (in the majority of cases)
child support amounts predictable. Maintenance (Alimony) law has no such schedule but
consists solely of a list of specific "factors". The proper award/denial of
maintenance requires a high degree of skill, experience and tax knowledge.
