Things to include in a visitation schedule

As you go through a divorce, you'll soon come to learn more about the importance of a visitation schedule.

With this in place, both you and the other parent will have a clear idea of how and when visitation will work.

While no two visitation schedules are identical, there are some important points that everyone should include. Here are some things to think about:

  • Weekends
  • Holidays (and holiday weekends)
  • Even-numbered and odd-numbered years
  • School vacations
  • Summer vacations
  • Pick up of the child
  • Illness of the child
  • Communication with the child

It's easy to believe that you don't have to include all these details in a visitation schedule, but the more the better. If you leave something up to interpretation, there's a good chance you could regret it in the future. For example, if you don't outline how a visitation schedule will impact summer vacations, you may find it challenging to take a trip with your child.

However, if you outline this detail in your visitation schedule, it's much easier to make the right decisions at the right time, all without causing any trouble between you and the other parent.

There is a lot to think about during your divorce. If you have at least one child with the other person, you should consider the importance of creating a visitation schedule.

When you combine a visitation schedule with a parenting agreement, you'll never have to worry about what you should and shouldn't be doing. Furthermore, if the other parent continually violates the schedule, you'll have a leg to stand on in court.
